Pune: Fr Andrew Fernandes (SJ), current Principal of St. Vincent’s School and parish priest of St. Xavier’s Church in Pune Camp, has been appointed as the provincial of Pune Province of the Society of Jesus or the Jesuits.

The appointment was announced by Rome-based Jesuit Superior General Fr. Arturo Sosa on Sunday. The term of the provincial will be for six years.

Fr Fernandes will replace Fr Bhausaheb Sansare, who has completed his term. Fr Fernandes is presently also holding the posts of Pune Province Treasurer and Consultor.   Pune Jesuit province comprises Pune, Ahmednagar, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara and Beed districts.

I think, the term of a Jesuit Provincial is limited to THREE years. It is however usual, that the second term follows it, but it does not follow necessarily. Fr. Bhausaheb Samsare has finished his second term as Provincial.
