हॉल  ऑफ फेम  -  कराड येथे टिळक हायस्कुलात मी अकरावीला शिकत होतो तेव्हा तिथल्या ऑफिसाशेजारी लावलेल्या एका फलकाकडे माझे नेहेमी लक्ष जायचे. संपूर्ण महाराष्ट्रात खूप वर्षांपूर्वी दहावीच्या परीक्षेत पहिल्या क्रमांकाने उत्तीर्ण झालेल्या शाळेतील एका विद्यार्थ्यांचे नाव त्यावर लिहिले होते. त्या फलकावर त्या एका नावाशिवाय खाली इतर नावे होती कि नव्हती ते आता आठवतही नाही, मात्र ते पहिले नाव अगदी लख्ख आठवते. ते नाव होते वि. स. पागे. त्यावेळी मी विद्यार्थी होतो तरी हे वि. स. पागे त्याकाळात महाराष्ट्र विधानपरिषदेचे सभापती होते हे मला माहित होते, त्यामुळेच तो फलक आणि ते नाव आतापर्यंत कायम आठवणीत राहिले. रोजगार हमी योजनेचे (रोहयो) जनक असलेल्या विठ्ठल सखाराम पागे यांनी १९६०-१९७८ ही १८ वर्षे सलगपणे विधानपरिषदेचे सभापतीपद सांभाळले होते. . त्या काळात केंद्रीय मंत्री म्हणून महत्त्वाची खाते सांभाळणारे यशवंतराव चव्हाण हे सुद्धा याच टिळक विद्यालयाचे विद्यार्थी. त्यांचा शाळेत कुठेही नामफलक नसला तरी शाळेच्या आवारात यशवंतरावांचा एक अर्धपुतळा होता. ते शैक्षणिक साल होते १९७६-७७, काळ आणीबाणीचा ह...

. मराठी पुस्तकां चा खप - आचार्य अत्रे यांना १९६६ साली `नोबेल' पारितोषिक मिळाले. मराठी साहित्यिकाला नोबेल पारितोषक मिळेल, तेव्हा मिळेल, पण आता त्याबाबत जनमताची चुणूक जाणून घ्यावी म्हणून `ललित' मासिकाने वाचकांचा प्रतिसाद मागवला तेव्हा प्रल्हाद केशव अत्रे यांना प्रथम क्रमांकाची मते मिळाली. पु. ल. देशपांडे आणि वि. स. खांडेकर दुसऱ्या आणि तिसऱ्या क्रमांकावर होते. `ललित' मासिकाच्या वतीने जयवंत दळवी आणि इतरांनी हा बिनपैशाचा नोबेल पुरस्कार अत्रे यांना दिला तेव्हा अत्रे त्यांच्या स्वभावानुसार याबाबत जाम खुशीत होते. दळवी लिहितात कि ``उत्साहाच्या भरात अत्रे यांनी आम्हाला दहाबारा दिवस पुरतील, एव्हढे खाद्यपदार्थ मागवले होते'' ( विषय अत्रे यांच्या संदर्भात असल्याने ही बहुधा जयवंत दळवी यांची अतिशयोक्ती असावी असं मला वाटतं ) यावेळी अत्रे यांची दीर्घ मुलाखत घ्यावी असं जयवंत दळवी यांना वाटलं पण तसा योग दोनतीन वर्षे आला नाही. अन एक दिवस म्हणजे १२ जून १९६९ला प्रकाशक ग. पां. परचुरे यांचा दळवी यांना फोन आला : ``आता साहेबांची आशा नाही'' असं म्हणून फोनवरची व्यक्ती हमसाहमशी रडू...
