 पुण्याने राष्ट्रपातळीवर केलेले  नेतृत्व  पुण्यात इंडियन एक्सप्रेसला मी १९८९ ला जॉईन झालो तेव्हा पुणे महापालिकेच्या सर्वसाधारण सभेत झालेल्या एका वादळी चर्चेला मी हजर होतो. विषय होता एरंडवणे परिसरातल्या सर्व्हे नंबर ४४ मध्ये टेकडीवर बांधकामास परवानगी देण्याबाबत. या प्रस्तावाला विरोध करत सत्ताधारी काँग्रेस पक्षाच्याच नगरसेविका वंदना चव्हाण यांनी अत्यंत आक्रमकतेतेने हा विषय लावून धरला होता.  इंडियन एक्सप्रेसचे पुणे निवासी संपादक प्रकाश कर्दळे यांच्यासह आम्ही इतर काही बातमीदार या सभेला उपस्थित असण्याचे कारण म्हणजे इंडियन एक्सप्रेस फोरमने हा पर्यावरणाचा विषय हाती घेतला होता. पुणे महापालिकेच्या सर्वसाधारण सभेला हजर राहण्याची ही माझी पहिली आणि एकमेव वेळ.  राज्यपातळीवर, देशपातळीवर आणि आंतरराष्ट्रीय पातळीवर या स्थानिक संस्थेच्या सदस्यांनी पदाधिकाऱ्यांनी आणि कारभाऱ्यांनी नेतृत्व केले आहे हे नंतर माझ्या लक्षात आले.  डॉ मं पा मंगुडकर यांनी पुणे महापालिकेच्या शंभराव्या वर्धापनानिमित्त संपादित केलेल्या स्मरणिकेत या संस्थेच्या आणि पुणे शहराच्या इतिहासाचा मागोवा घेतला ...
