Parrikar’s role in Goa unenviable CAMIL PARKHE |  Sunday, 19 March 2017 AT 02:23 PM IST       CAMIL PARKHE ,  Manohar Parrikar ,  Goa ,  CM Finally, the BJP has formed a coalition government in Goa, albeit with reduced seats as compared to the previous house. This indicates that Manohar Parrikar, who has been sworn in as chief minister for the fourth term, will have a daunting task in retaining power for the full fiver-year term in the tiny state. The fractured mandate in Goa has created problems for the two main political parties in the state, the BJP and the Congress. The defeat of Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and seven members of his Cabinet has served a big jolt for the BJP, which had been on a climbing graph in the state for over one-and-half decades. The fall and fall of the Congress in Pune Municipal Corporation CAMIL PARKHE |  Sunday, 5 March 2017 AT 10:38 AM IST       CAMIL PARKHE ,  PMC ,  Pune Municipal Corporation ,  Congress Bhavan ,  Nationalist Congress Party ,  Pune The Congress Bhavan and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) headquarters located in Shivajinagar are separated only by a small lane. It was only incidental that the Congress ruled the Pune Municipal Corporation during the post-independent period for decades until its splinter group, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), took over the reigns a decade ago. The two neighbours i.e. The Congress Bhavan and the Pune Municipal Corporation had close ties besides their physical proximity. With the Bharatiya Janata Party storming into the Congress-NCP stronghold, the decades-old rule of the Congress in the civic body has come to an end. In the 162-member House, now, the BJP has 98 members, while the Congress has been pushed back to the third place with
