PUNE: It is the advent season, the period heralding Christmas, and St Paul Book Centre in Pune Camp is drawing a large number of people for the purchase of various articles essential for the festival celebration.
People from various parts of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, belonging to various parishes, have been visiting St Paul Book Centre for the past few days to purchase cribs, Christmas trees, carols audio CDs, calendars with religious themes and various other articles and stationery associated with Christmas.
St Paul is also a major centre supplying religious books, stationery and articles to various Catholic Church institutions. Priests, nuns and representatives of various Church institutions visit the shop to make bulk purchases for the festival season.
“Cribs, the set depicting the nativity scene is a speciality of St Paul’s,” says Fr Devasia Athalathil, in-charge of the shop.
Crib sets of various sizes with statues of baby Jesus, his parents Mary and Joseph and various characters have been displayed at St Paul.
These include the three wise kings, shepherds, animals in the manger and also the angels
“The demonetisation has indeed affected sale during this festive season. But we have been using a swipe machine since the last two years,” Fr Athalathil told Sakal Times.
